GNC AQUA Group integrates and coordinates the agency’s aquaculture policies, research, outreach, and international obligations. In addition, together with Aquafarm and the Aquafeeds have robust aquaculture research activities.

Since 2009, Mr. Suresh has been expanding its aquaculture efforts by establishing regional factories, hatchery and farms. This allows better supply chain management of region-specific issues and allowing us to provide to the demands of our counterparts. GNC AQUA Group focuses on several distinct priority areas including regulation and policy, science and research, outreach and education.

GNC AQUA Group fosters marine aquaculture that will create employment and business opportunities in coastal communities, productive marine populations, species, and ecosystems and vibrant coastal communities.

GNC AQUA Group addresses regulatory and policy issues as they relate to marine aquaculture in the Asian Pacific Region. The purpose of this effort is to enable domestic aquaculture production within the context of GNC AQUA Group marine stewardship responsibilities, which include the protection of the marine environment while balancing multiple uses of coastal and ocean waters. GNC AQUA Group role in aquaculture regulation includes.

  • Consultations with the AVA, NARA, LKIM and other bodies on permitting.
  • Consultations with the Environmental Protection Agency on endangered species, fish habitat, and marine mammal protection.
  • Develop guidance and work with regional Fishery Management Councils on a regulatory framework for aquaculture in Asian Pacific waters

GNC AQUA Group plays an important role as a professional aquaculture consultant, we provide expert advice and guidance to individuals or organizations involved in the production of aquatic organisms, such as fish, shellfish, or plants, in a controlled environment. The main role of an GNC AQUA Group is to help clients optimize their production processes, improve the quality of their products, and increase their profitability. Some of the specific tasks that an aquaculture consultant may perform include:

  1. Providing technical advice on all aspects of aquaculture production, such as site selection, system design, stocking density, feeding regimes, water quality management, and disease control.
  2. Conducting feasibility studies to determine the economic viability of aquaculture projects, including market analysis, financial projections, and risk assessment.
  3. Developing and implementing management plans that ensure the efficient and sustainable operation of aquaculture facilities.
  4. Monitoring production processes and providing ongoing advice and support to ensure that production targets are met and quality standards are maintained.
  5. Providing training and education to aquaculture operators and staff on best practices in aquaculture production and management.

GNC AQUA Group has been an international leader in aquaculture research and technology development. Innovative research has been conducted by scientists within group and its various departments, through collaborative research with academic and private sector partners, via international and bilateral research initiatives with foreign scientists, and through a GNC AQUA Group -run competitive programs for marine aquaculture. Areas of emphasis have included research on environmental effects, aquatic health, nutrition, early life history culture techniques, aquatic species restoration, stock enhancement, and ecosystem management.

The overall goal of these research initiatives is to provide science knowledge for the agency’s regulatory and resource management decisions and foster innovative and sustainable approaches to aquaculture.

Our Team

Suresh Cholaagaar (CEO)

Mr. Suresh is highly specialized in the field of Aquaculture has been running a team of international Aquaculture consultants with combined experience of more than 30 years in Aquaculture industry, who are professionally certified in marine/fresh water Finfish & Crustacean-Hatchery & Grow out , after enjoying highly successful stints operation mud crab hatcheries and grow out ponds, now intends to set-up a Bio-Aquaculture Research and Development center to commercialize new and innovative technologies for sustainable mud crab aquaculture. Suresh has conducted intensive research on larval rearing techniques, brook stock maturation and spawning.

Soman Arvin (Legal and finance)

Since 2014, Arvin served in Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Cooperation (HSBC Singapore for 2years while dealing with end-to-end Process control for trading in wealth management. He has governed a variety of products ranging from unit trust, equity linked notes, bonds and other structured products ensuring regulatory compliance and managing incidents. During his tenure, Arvin has also trained individuals for department migration purposes, tracking quality and providing support for overseas counterparts. He possessed wide spreads experience in business consultancy services for SMEs in Singapore on carious industries. This includes identifying company needs and requirement where he has successfully developed and implemented strategic solutions to propel business operational efficiency ensuring robust results.

Dr. Ryan Roshan (Chief Aquaculture Officer)

Dr. Ryan Roshan a qualified vet, heads the GNC aquaculture department, he has more than 10 years experiences in farm production, was trained well on being critical and analytical using several factors and variable in farm husbandry in order to produce best yield probability. This not only require knowledge on farm practices and disease control, but also requires the need to use proper software, the right formulation based on input taken from the farm in order to show best probable outcome from each cycle of production.

M Rathinam (Managing Director India)

A serial entrepreneur from Chennai is motivated by working in innovative environments that analyses the ‘big problems’ and looks to solve issues that impact and influence the economy. With experiences in technology start-ups, real estate, logistics and Aquaculture, in his latest role he is investing and leading GNC Aqua Group India – a company focusing on aquaculture industry.

Velmurugan Sangrak (Managing Director Malaysia)

Mr. Vel is the Managing Director of the Malaysia entity and a member of the Board of Directors. He was born in 1978 and studied Business Administration and Aquaculture. He is with us since 2014 and has been a valuable and active member in bringing in of numerous large-scale projects.

Dr. R. Krishna Prakash (Chief Aquaculture Officer)

Completed his PHD in 2011 in Aquaculture, with experience as a research associate at National Initiative on Climate Resilient Aquaculture (NICRA) and as an aquaculture consultant at Integrated Aquaculture International (IAI) and have moved to join our team. He brings with him a large background of larval maturation and various crustacean culturing. Dr. Prakash has successfully hatched and bred various aquaculture species and developed many procedures in mud crab larvae rearing and feed testing. Dr. Prakash continues to work with us in RND and hatchery supervision.

Ms. Jayasri Ponnusami (Aquaculture Officer)

Jayasri specializes in the field of marine ecology and water quality management. Jayasri has obtained in-depth knowledge of aquatic ecology through her repeated research on water quality and aquatic organism. She has also done a research on the community structure of gastropods and bivalves and their correlation with water quality at Malaysia Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sarawak Waters collaborated with Malaysian Fisheries Department (SEAFDEC Cruise). Besides, her research was on the macrobenthos in relation with the environmental parameters at Sarawak intertidal (Kuching to Miri) and zooplankton abundance at Bruit Island and Patok Island. Also, she did a sustainable management study and field work at Bako National Park, mangrove flora and fauna observation and study at Asajaya mangrove area, and turtle observation and management at Talang Satang Island. Jayasri has documented her research findings on biodiversity, ecology, and water quality that can be used in future management and conservation activities. Currently, she is working on horseshoe crab management and their blood extraction. Jayasri graduated with a Bachelor of Aquatic Resource Science and Technology (Hons) degree, as well as a Master of Science in Marine Science from University Malaysia Sarawak.

Shangary Ravindran (Aquaculture Officer)

Shangary graduated from UMT in Aquaculture, she joints GNC as trainee and successfully climbed her way to head a hatchery. Under the Mentorship of Dr. Amaj, a consultant engaged by GNC, she successfully developed brood stock management and breeding program for Jade Perch, Snakehead, Empurua and Lobster. Presently she manages our Fresh water hatchery in Layang Malaysia.

Manikandan (Aquaculture Officer)

Mani presently heading the Cambodia team. He poses 10 years’ experience in aquaculture related fields encompassing industry, academic research, rural development and consultancy, giving him a broad inter-disciplinary perspective on the aquaculture sector and a detailed understanding of the interaction of market, technology, management, and the physical, social and economic environment. He has commercial experience in Shrimp, Crab and fish production and a research background on integrated small-holder aquaculture systems in India.

Amaj Rahimi Midani; Ph.D. (Consultant)

Ph.D. specialized in marine aquaculture resources Dr Amaj excellent scientific background and capable to analyze complex phenomena such as climate change Experienced capacity building project coordinator for nearly five years international experience, working as freelance consultant and external expert at United Nations and its Specialized Agencies United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and International Atomic Energy. Successfully conducted 19 different Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects for more than 20 countries; Published more than 18 papers, 3 books, 8 guidelines and reviewed more than 50 papers for different journals such as environmental modelling. Conducted expert mission to Fiji, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea for supporting these states in better implementation of TC projects. Also, helped in developing nuclear safety and security regulation for the new X-ray building being constructed in Vanuatu’s main hospital. In Vanuatu and Fiji, conducted a meeting related to soli salinity and helped in combating this issue with the help of nuclear isotopic techniques for Cassava and sweet potato.

Aziz Bin Arshad (Consultant)
B.Sc. (Fisheries) (UPM-1983); M.Sc. (Wales-1986); PhD (Plymouth-1999)
